Still have to pinch myself to realize that being on the Today Show (the actual freaking Today Show)and throwing a baby shower happened. It totally did. Vision boards were not something I was ever into- but I made a short list and called it my vision board with outrageous hopes and dreams in the beginning of the year. Want to know one of the items that was on it? Yep! The Today Show!
Bluprint to the Today Show
Bluprint is a fantastic streaming network for NBC Universal for Makers to watch and learn. Through Bluprint, I have been honored to co host a show called “Bring the Party” with Joshua John Russel of Man About Cake. On this show, JJR and I create amazing parties of all kinds from office parties to even a wedding! When it was announced that Jenna Bush Hager was pregnant with her third child, it was put into the works to have Bluprint throw her a shower. With Bluprint and NBC being “family” it was a great connection to have. Guess who they called? You guessed it, JJR and me! We were so excited!
It’s a Cowboy!
The behind the scenes- insider scoop- is that we all knew it was a boy (it was public knowledge) and we had narrowed it down to three themes. Ultimately the western theme was picked and you can’t have the maiden name Bush and not be associated with Texas. Oue theme was wrapped around this adorable theme of a little cowboy and my goal was to plan a drool worthy shower of new and inspirational details mixing in all of the personal impacts from Jenna. JJR and I were told that Jenna was really (like really) craving queso, tacos and all things Tex-Mex so this had to be the savory for her event. I wracked my brain trying to come up with new and exciting things that I just could not find already out there. Below you will find photos from the shower and the thinking behind them!
These photos are from a behind the scene cell phone- I apologize for the quality- I was busty being on the Today Show!!! This first grouping is on set right before we went on. You can tell JJR and I get along fairly well.
Waiting for Jenna to arrive to her baby shower. Her friends being there and her theme were a total surprise!
The “centerpieces” were boots that we ordered dried floral from Amazon! This way you don’t have to worry about water or having them die!! I picked these dried florals; golden wheat, pampas grass, billy button balls, cattails. The Banner is super cute! The base are a pre cut banner collection from Michaels with the letters cut from Cricut’s design space using my Maker. The red letters are actually velvet and why they look so lush. The silver is a really cool reflection tone so that the letters would pop off of the cardboard. That bandana backdrop is one of my favorite backdrops ever. I’ll have the step by step for you soon. You guys, I made this in a hotel room so I promise it is easy!
In the above photo you can see that we used a simple set up for presenting these adorable infusible ink t shirts and onesie for the cowboy and his big sisters. I coordinated the fonts so it would all flow together. Below I made these invitations just using the layering of papers; base is the reflective silver from the banner, a blue paisly, then a red dotted print finishing off the top layer with a sweet cut out of a cowboy hat. The writing is also done my the Cricut using the pens system on the Maker. I went to the thrift store and literally cut out the pockets as a holder and wrapped a strip of bandana and raffia around it. How cute?!
JJR and I were told that Jenna was CRAVING Mexican food so we decided to do a Tex Mex to go with the theme. Baby Tacos, queso (which was her life blood at the time) with chips were the savory. You can see near the bottom of the photo that the mini cactus were our favors for the guests. We had them along the table at the place setting as well to show a few ways you could stage them and use them as decor!
Y’all. I had no idea how to spell this word. Thank the LORD that a Today Show intern was from the south and caught the misspelling of ya’ll. I was totally able to unpeel this because it was vinyl and fixed it right before we went on! How adorable is this guest book for this theme? Perfect to display in the nursery after the shower! You can see the toy tractor with the rice krispy hay bales and the mud pies desserts!
We didn’t even get to all of the awesome details- you can see this adorable blow up cow and the rings are a “toss” games we invented. Thank you so much to the Today Show for having us! We so enjoyed our time and this opportunity!
