Let me introduce you to the spiral paper flower that anyone can create in just a few minutes! Despite the short amount it takes to create these spiral paper flowers, the impact is great. My first handmade flowers were made out of felt. I made them all of the time, but then came that fateful night that I ran out of material. It was too late to run to Michaels to buy more, so I picked up some paper I had lying around and tried making a flower using the same technique.
The paper flower obsession begins!
It worked beautifully, and from that point on, I only used paper. These paper flowers are the easiest to make and are absolutely adorable. Of course, the bigger the paper you use, the bigger your paper “rose” grows to be. I love to add some paint to mine to give them dimension. If you make a few (or more) of them and group them together, it can look like an entire garden.
Below is a step by step tutorial to guide you in the process of creating your first spiral paper flower. We’ve included printable instructions at the bottom of this post in case you prefer paper instructions.
Let’s get crafty and start making the spiral paper flower!
The supplies needed for this spiral paper flower project are so few that you will most likely already have them on hand… SCORE!
Cut your piece of paper into a circle. You can free hand this or use a template (like a bowl).
Once your circle has been cut out- start to cut a spiral.
Starting from the outside toward the inside- rotate your paper to create the spiral.
Be sure to start slightly into the paper and gradually gaining some width as you go.Leave yourself enough room for glue for the following steps- by leaving a base when you reach the center of the paper.
Now that your spiral has been cut from your circle- starting from the thinner outside piece you first cut- start rolling in between your fingers.

Once your paper is more pliable- start to roll the entire spiral into itself.Hold the paper somewhat tight as you go and you will see your spiral paper flower start to take place.
When you reach the center of the spiral- let go of the rolled paper so that it can open up a bit.
Put glue on your platform base you left earlier.
Take the rolled up paper and attached to the glue- holding the center of the flower in place over the glue.
Hold for a few moments until it dries but a bit.
There you have it! A completed flower! *Note- you do NOT have to wear it on your head.
This is a fantastic flower to start with- play with cutting waves while you cut your spiral- you can use colored car stock and even paint them.
